Marketing Communications and Technology Agency
UK PARLIAMENT: Client acquisition from a successful, yet fiercely fought procurement of transformational Technology Services. This positioned the company as an in-house strategic development partner with long term consultancy opportunities to the Parliamentary ICT department.
SHELL (DOWNSTREAM AFRICA): Client acquisition for Consultancy Services to address the `soft issues' within their top 100 leadership team, associated with a continent-wide transformation of their organisational business model. This resulted in program deliveries in EMEA territories which have secured measured improvements in employee engagement, commitment and Leadership Behaviours.
APPLIED MATERIALS: Business Analysis for the establishment of a Project Governance Centre for Transparency in the decision making process and improvement in employee innovation. Set around PRINCE 2 compliance and to address the operational costs of project failure.
New Media Agency that grew out of my role as Group Webmaster at C&W. With responsibilities for both the day-to-day running of the company and developing new business plans for the long-term future of the organisation in the backdrop of the dot.com collapse.

Cable & Wireless Case Study:
Responsible for the commercial negotiations and delivery of an Enterprise web-application, establishing governance in the decision making processes; highlighting bottlenecks in real-time at stakeholder, sponsor, regional & project manager level in 30 territories. Specifically, the web application incorporated PRINCE 2 and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and process automation for the Product Portfolio. Successfully deployed across C&W's Eastern Territories to manage the top half of their P&L ($900m) delivering: 40% increase in 1st Stage projects. `Concept to concrete' time to market fell from 9 to 3 months and project management costs fell by 38%. Savings attributed to the business were $1.2m in the first 6 months of use and a 7% increase in revenue.
Recruited to develop the online portfolio for C&W reporting to the Group Chief Operating Officer.
Managed all aspects of the FTSE 100's Global Web operations. Acted as a coordinator and overseer to the activities of workers on both internal and external strategies utilising the duties of information architect, including ensuring site usability, user experience and menu taxonomy.
Responsibilities included use of on-line media to market and sell products and/or services together with all technical aspects of overseeing web site construction and maintenance. Responsibilities included the management of content, advertising, general marketing and order fulfilment.
My wife and I had always been active in our community and wanting to learn more from like-minded people we made the decision take a year out from business and study at a reputable college in West Sussex.
Following the sudden collapse of the UK shipping empire I acted as an independent consultant to a number of key UK clients on a contractor basis in the area of organisational restructuring and asset stripping.
Shipping was on the downturn and the Board decided that we should enter the world of VCs. At the time COLI had lost a substantial amount on a poor investment decision. I was asked to apply due diligence and as a result of my work and my instatement as MD, COLI VC broke even the next year and we entered a substantial profit the year following.

While acting as intermediary during a particularly difficult dispute between a UK blue chip and a significant company in Saudi Arabia, I resolved two things both the dispute and my next career step when I accepted an offer to work directly for the MD of COLI UK as chief liaison. Thereafter began an extensive training regime culminating as Director Special Operations for UK and in 1985 a shareholding directorship.

My accountancy knowledge and natural business curiosity proved invaluable and I finally took the role of General Manager with direct responsibility for Sales & Marketing.

Initially a part-time role from College, during which time I predominantly typed up reports and presentation material prior to meetings and conferences. As time progressed and their demand increased, I joined them full-time. Recognising their appeal, I subsequently opened and ran their commercial division.
